With profound sadness I received notice of Mabel’s death from my current home in Minnesota. As Mabel’s youngest sister-in-law I had the good fortune to share her life for many years, seeing first hand how she raised her three children who all became devoted to her.
I will always remember Mabel’s consistently cherry spirit whenever we met. Mabel always made people feel welcome in her home. Mabel’s hospitality knew no peer as a marvelous host and a talented cook. Holiday seasons often meant a family dinner at Mabel’s home. She provided the opportunity where relatives and close friends could mingle with one another, share lots of laughs, and exchange the latest news in their lives.
But Mabel was not a home body. She devoted her life by serving the community in many ways, while also enjoying time with her beloved horses. With the early death of her husband, my brother, Mabel continued serving as a supportive mother for her three children and granddaughter Ashley. In turn, they expressed their love for her with the support and love she demonstrated so well. Mabel’s passing will leave a void in the lives of all who knew her.
