Obituary of Barbara Jean Smith Vosburgh

Barbara Jean Smith Vosburgh, 94, of Kinderhook, NY passed away on September 17, 2023 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by her family. Barbara was born in Albany, NY to F. Burton Smith and May (Ody) Smith on October 28, 1928. She attended high school at the former Milne School in Albany and earned a B.A. degree from the former New York State College for Teachers. Upon graduation she accepted a position in the biochemistry laboratory of the Albany Medical Center Hospital. She married Frank Edward Vosburgh, Jr. in 1950 and moved to Kinderhook, NY where she served as a tutor and substitute teacher in the former Martin Van Buren School and the Ichabod Crane Central School in Valatie. In the early 1960's she accepted a full-time teaching position with the Chatham Central School in Chatham, NY teaching math and science at the 7th and 8th grade level for over 25 years. During this time she completed graduate studies at SUNY, Albany and Union College in Schenectady. Following retirement from teaching she worked at the former Treasure Shop in Kinderhook for ten years, then turned her attention to giving private piano lessons to many students for almost 20 years. She enjoyed meeting many fine young people and their families forging many friendships along the way. Throughout her life in Kinderhook, Barbara was an active member of the Kinderhook Reformed Church where she served our Lord as children's choir director, Deacon, and Elder on the church consistory, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, and bridge. Barbara was predeceased by Frank E. Vosburgh Jr., her husband of over 62 years. She is survived by her daughter Lynn Stimolo and husband Bob Stimolo of Delray Beach, FL and their daughter Erica Stimolo of Boynton Beach, FL. Her extended family includes Carin Stimolo, her husband Jason Osburn, their children Jack and Stella Osburn of Winthrop, MA and Leigh Stimolo, her husband Kevin Labbe and their son Devan of Revere, MA. She is also survived by her sister Roberta Dixon of Winter Park, Fl. A funeral service will be held at the Kinderhook Reformed Church at 21 Broad Street, Kinderhook, NY on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. with Rudy Visser officiating. Burial will follow at the Ghent Reformed Church at 1039 Co Rte 22, Ghent NY. Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Kinderhook Reformed Church in Kinderhook, NY.
