Sonia Marie Roosa (Bortugno), 91, of Kinderhook, New York passed away on November 6, 2024, in Hudson, New York, surrounded by her loved ones.
Sonia was born in Yonkers, New York to Sophia (Piekarski) and Christopher Bortugno. In high school, Sonia and her family moved to Columbia County where she lived out the rest of life. Sonia was an active member of her community participating in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Stuyvesant Falls Fire Department and Valatie Rescue Squad. She lived her faith and participated in many ministries at The Church of St. Joseph in Stuyvesant Falls. She was an Apostle of the Sisters of the Resurrection, as well as a member of the Red Hat Society.
Sonia enjoyed visiting her family near and far, collecting lighthouses, and her wine time that included Millie and Diane.
Sonia's greatest joy was her family. She was a mother figure to many and loved by all. Sonia is survived by her sisters Elaine (Robert) Metz and Elizabeth Hollis, her daughter Susann (Douglas) Park, son Edward (Atsuko) Roosa, and daughter in law Rachel Kaszowski, her grandchildren Angel Roosa, Jessica Doss (James Marsh), Christine (Brian) Beck, Harley (Jennifer) Roosa, Douglas Park, David Park, Jeremy (Heather) Park, Jennifer (Salvador) Garfias, and Matthew Roosa, great grandchildren Aubrey (Timothy) Stewart, Robert Park, Christopher Doss, Layla Park, Caitlyn Beck, Semaj Marsh, Maddison Park, Salvador Garfias, Kinsley Park, and Sophia Garfias, and great great grandchildren Skylar Mae and Titus Marcel Stewart.
She is preceded in death by her spouse Richard Roosa, her parents, her brother Christopher (Joan) Bortugno, brother-in-law Robert Hollis, and sons Richard (Adrienne) Roosa and Steven Roosa.
Sonia was beloved by many and will be missed for her compassion, fiery spirit and words of wisdom.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during calling hours on Saturday, November 9th from 12 pm to 4 pm at the Raymond E Bond Funeral Home in Valatie, New York.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, November 11th, 11 AM at The Church of St. Joseph in Stuyvesant Falls, New York.
Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Stuyvesant Falls, New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stuyvesant Falls Fire Department or The Church of St. Joseph.
