William "Bill" Paul McGarry Jr., of Valatie, NY, passed away on September 4th, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on March 13, 1940, in Queens, NY, to William P. McGarry Sr. and Lylan Stein, Bill grew up in Mount Kisco, NY, where he attended high school. In September 1959, Bill enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served as a chef until August 1963. After completing his military service, he pursued a career as an auto mechanic, a profession he loved and excelled in for many years. Bill had a deep passion for racing and was a devoted NASCAR fan. He was also a longtime member of the Elks Club of Kinderhook, where he enjoyed camaraderie and community involvement. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sylvia McGarry; his daughter, Christine McGarry of Sunset Harbor, NC; his son, Brian McGarry, also of Sunset Harbor, NC; and his stepchildren, Ralph Johnson of Hyde Park and Cheryl Johnson of Clifton Park. He is also survived by his brother James McGarry (Deborah) of Sterling, CT, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill will now join his late son, William McGarry. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Peter's Hospice on the 5th floor for their care and compassion. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 10 am to 12 pm. A funeral service, officiated by Nick Becker, will follow at 12 p.m. Interment will take place at The North Chatham Cemetery.
