Nancy Mae Handy, 81, of Valatie, NY, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024. Born in Rome, NY on August 27, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Milton E. and Janet Livingston Flansburg.
Nancy graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School in 1961. For many years she was a bus driver for Ichabod Crane Central Schools in Valatie, NY. She became a Certified Nurse's Aide in 1985 and worked in that career until her retirement. She followed her passion for cooking, cake decorating, confections, food design, and baking while attending classes at various schools across the country and receiving many certificates and awards.
In her retirement years, she volunteered her time cooking at the Valatie Senior Center. She organized holiday dinners for the people who resided at the place where she lived. She was always baking and giving away breads, sweet treats, and food to everyone she knew. Nancy-Crocker was a fun nickname for her. She loved playing bingo and organized games. Traveling near and far just to try to win the big jackpot. She was easy to talk to, laugh with, and had a great sense of humor. She was very generous and thoughtful of her family, relatives, friends, and others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Harold J. Handy Sr. Her children Janet (known as Jenny) Handy of Niverville, NY, Harold Handy Jr. of Colorado, David (Michelle) Handy of Niverville, NY, and Daniel Handy of Plattsburgh, NY. In addition to her children, Nancy leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; each one a testament to her enduring love; Jennifer (Mark) Handy, Krystal (David) Huyck, Harold (Kaitlin) Handy III, Nicole Handy, Paige, Nathan, Seth, and Kyle Handy. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Anne Flansburg and Carol Flansburg. Several special nieces, nephews, and their spouses and children.
