Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Janet Godfrey, 89, of Niverville, NY, passed away on April 13th, 2024. Janet was born in West Albany, NY, on August 2nd, 1934, the daughter of George and Lillian Bleichert. She grew up in West Albany, NY, as the oldest of six children. Janet enjoyed working at the candy counter when Grant's Department Store opened on North Pearl Street in 1950. It was there she met her husband, Paul Godfrey Sr. They settled in Niverville, NY, and raised their three children. Janet's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren and great-grandsons grow. She took enormous pleasure in cooking for her family, entertaining, and singing (many weekends in the late 70s at the Lakeshore house in Niverville). Her sense of humor was beyond compare, and she had a unique ability to make everyone feel like they were part of the family. Survivors include her three children: Paul Godfrey and his wife, Karen, of North Chatham, NY; Linda Meehan of Niverville, NY; and Lisa Swartz and her husband, James, of Ghent, NY. Additionally, she is survived by her four grandchildren: Justin Godfrey and his wife, Angie; Steven Meehan and his wife, Justine; Katie Meehan; and Thomas Meehan. Also, four treasured great-grandsons: Ryan Godfrey, Connor, Cody, and Colin Meehan. Janet is also survived by her beloved sister, Julie Curtis; sister, Lillian Smith; brother, Joseph Bleichert; and sister-in-law, Donna Bleichert, as well as several nieces and nephews. Janet is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Paul Godfrey Sr., and brothers George and John Bleichert. Visitation will be held at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home on Friday, April 19th, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A small gravesite service will follow at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 2:00 pm, where she will be buried alongside her husband. Memorial donations may be made in Janet's name to the Valatie Rescue Squad or Community Hospice.
