Charles Frederick Heermance, 93 of East Greenbush, NY passed away on April 10, 2024 at the Evergreen Commons Nursing home in East Greenbush. Charles was born in Niverville, NY to Elizabeth and Frederick Heermance on March 25,1931. Charles attended the Martin H. Glynn school in Valatie, NY, eventually getting his GED. Charles married the love of his life Mary in 1951, this past January, they celebrated 73 years of marriage. In 1952, Charles was drafted into the Marine Corps to serve in the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged on March 12,1954. For over 25 years, Charles worked at the GAF/BASF factory in Rensselaer, NY in the Steam generation facility. Charles was an avid golfer, bowler, home chef, and prankster who was an astute observer of human nature. Charles enjoyed swimming and on several occasions was able to rescue drowning children while watching his own. Charles witnessed profound poverty and starvation overseas while in the Marine Corps, which led him to grow vegetables on 11 acres of land, and to supplement his income with a family produce stand. Charles is survived by his wife Mary Heermance of East Greenbush, NY, his daughters Christine Tolcser (Eric) of East Schodack, Lisa Heermance of East Greenbush, son Martin Heermance (Sharon) of Boston; grandchildren Lara and Andrew Heermance, his nephew Richard Jacker, niece Amanda Wood and great nephew Lee. Charles is predeceased by his parents and his sister Katherine Kelsey. Memorial donations may be made to the Regional Food bank of Northeastern NY. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Evergreen Commons nursing home and the nursing staff at Albany Medical center. Funeral Services for the family were held at the Raymond E. Bond funeral home in Valatie, NY. Burial followed at the Woodlawn cemetery Valatie, NY.
