Romona Lou DenBesten (Monie Lou) [Gulling], 84 of Valatie, NY passed away on January 19, 2024 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Leroy DenBesten & son Terry DenBesten.
Romona was born in Vidalia, Iowa to Ross and Ruth Gulling on July 28, 1939. She attended school at Prairie City High School and graduated in 1957. Romona worked side by side with her husband & sons running Vermeer Sales & Service which is a heavy equipment dealership that they started in 1968. She became CEO in 1991 and stayed at the helm until the company was sold in 2000. Romona was a remarkable woman who brought comfort and warmth to everyone who met her. Her kitchen was her haven where she would create inviting feasts. She loved to entertain her family and friends, preparing food for all and providing stories of the past. She had a special fondness for swans that often graced her pond where she would watch them for hours at a time while enjoying a glass of Joseph Carr Cabernet. Romona leaves behind a testament to a life well-lived and cherished by all who were touched by her spirit.
Romona is survived by her sons Thomas DenBesten (Marjorie), Todd DenBesten, Troy DenBesten (Sandy), daughter-in-law Donna DenBesten, brother Ronald Gulling, grandchildren: Jason DenBesten (Melissa Coons), Brandie Hamilton (Michael), Heidie Zulaski (Aaron), Lisa DenBesten (Kamie), Kenneth DenBesten, Leonardo DenBesten, Beau DenBesten (Taylor), great grandchildren: Camryn DenBesten, Jayden DenBesten, Mackenzie Hamilton, Lucas Hamilton, Johnathan Zulaski, Ryker DenBesten & Natalie Zulaski, Neice: Tami Watson & Nephew Tony Gulling.
Funeral service will be held at Kinderhook Dutch Reformed Church in Kinderhook, New York on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at noon with Rev. Rudy Visser officiating. The burial will follow at Kinderhook Cemetery. A private viewing will be held at Romona's home. Flowers can be sent to 163 Orchard Drive or donations to Columbia Greene Hospice. Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home in Valatie will be handling the funeral arrangements.
