Obituary of Alfred John Coons

Alfred John Coons, known to all as John, 76, of Niverville, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 14, 1947 in Hudson, NY, he was the son of Martina Coons and the late Albert "Jake" Coons. He attended Ichabod Crane High School and was well known as an exemplary baseball player . He graduated in 1965 and earned his degree in Marine Engineering from Maritime University. He went on to travel the world for many years while enlisted in the Merchant Marines. John loved all sports and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Valatie, NY. He was known by all for his kindness and sense of humor.

Besides his mother, Tina, he is also survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sharon Coons (Argyle); his children, Shannon Frick (Richard), Joseph Coons (Sandy Yovine), Staycie Coons (Kieran McNamara) and John Coons (Tori Jefferson).

John was a loving Poppy and leaves behind five grandsons that worshipped him, Gavin Frick, Carter Frick, Connor Coons, Wyatt Coons and Lennox Coons. Besides his father, he is also predeceased by his brother, Joseph Coons.

Calling hours will be held at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, Friday. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Valatie. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie.
