Obituary of George Lewis Parker
Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George Lewis Parker age 82 of Astoria, Oregon born on March 12, 1941 to James and Ruby Parker of West Brookfield, MA passed away on October 27, 2023 in Catskill, NY.
George enlisted in the USCG in 1959 and retired as a Chief Bosun Mate in 1977. The Coast Guard gave him the opportunity to see the world and developed his love for the water. Although he was stationed many places, Astoria is the place he felt most at home. The USCG was not just a career, it left him with life long friends and a USCG family that was there his entire life.
Upon his retirement from the Coast Guard he worked for the City of Astoria and Jim Wilkin's Construction. The call for being on the water was always there and seasonal commercial fishing in Alaska and Astoria was able to fill that void. It gave him that sense of community, where he also made many life long friends.
Alway's top of George's list was his family, he spent countless hours on his boat taking his family fishing for sturgeon and salmon or just a leisurely cruise on the Columbia River.
On February 23, 1963 he married the love of his life Mary (Hyde) Parker who preceded him in death. He is survived by their three children, Susan (Robert) Donohue, Leslie (Todd) L'Amie, George Parker II, five grandchildren, Melissa (Adam) Vooris, Dustin Donohue, Meghan (Greg) Sherwood, Mary (Chris) Choquette, Adam L'Amie, and nine great grandchildren. He is one of fourteen children and survived by Donald (Dot) Parker, Judy (Tom) Berthume and many nieces and nephews.
George's celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made payable to:
