I am incredibly saddened to have just found out about Corrie's passing from the Columbia University School of Nursing Alumni magazine. Not sure if this message will be passed along to her family, but I certainly hope that is possible.
Corrie was my student in the Dominican Republic at Centro de Familia La Romana. She is one of the students of whom I have the fondest memories and I have taught many. Always caring, responsible, compassionate. She and another student, Lisa, had time before their flight one time and I was staying on in the DR by myself and they invited me to dinner with them so I wouldn't be all alone. I was so touched by this simple gesture of kindness and inclusiveness. I'm sure she was a spectacular midwife and the world of healthcare is at a great loss without her. She was the best.
I cannot imagine your sadness at her passing, but please know that there are many who loved her and benefited from her presence on the earth for the short time she was here.

Corrie & I became instant best friends in 2010 when her and I worked the 3-11 phlebotomy shift at the hospital. Where you seen her I wasn’t far behind. From spending many nights bar hopping as 2 young, single hot chicks to drinking 5 bottles of wine (fat frog red to be exact) singing Warren G’s “Regulate”. I will never forget the day Corrie told me she got into Columbus University. I was so happy for her. Knowing how hard she studied. When it came time for graduation I knew it was something I would have never missed. Good thing I didn’t cause Columbia knows how to throw a graduation. Champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, little cheesecake. Fast forward a bit. I was beyond blessed when my best friend came to visit me while I was on my 3rd day of labor. Well she came just in time. Corrie delivered my son. A memory I will cherish forever. I’m not sure if this hole in my heart will ever close but I find peace in all the fantastic, fun, loving, scared, real, humbling times. I love you Corrie & will miss you beautiful presence. Thank you for the time we had together & until I see you again Sass

I was so saddened to hear about Corrie’s passing and am so very sorry for your loss. Corrie had such a bright and gentle spirit and was the kindest friend. I was so lucky to study abroad with Corrie in Spain and to travel with her- she had such a sense of adventure, and I have countless wonderful memories of our time traveling and laughing together. Corrie will be very missed and my thoughts are with her family.

I was so sad to learn of Corrie’s death. I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Corrie at OneWorld Community Health Center in Omaha when she was a midwife here. I remember her as being very devoted to her patients, and very committed to helping immigrant women gain access to prenatal care. She was a very principled person who served others with an open heart. I remember her very beautiful smile, which she shared very generously. In the midst of sometimes very serious and difficult work serving a marginalized group of women with few resources, her smile would brighten the whole room. I hope you can find comfort in the days to come.

I met Corrie in 2019 when I joined SunRiver Healthcare where Corrie was a midwife. I was so impressed with her kindness and attention to her patients and her coworkers. She was a bright light that lit the world around her. I will truly miss her, her excitement and her smile.

Corrie: I am a happier and more adventurous person having know you and been lucky enough to spend so much time with you abroad in Salamanca and senior year at Colby. We never failed to laugh (a lot) together. I miss you and am forever grateful for our time together.

Corrie packed in a lot of adventures in her lifetime and I was thankful to be a part of some, one of which is my favorite trip of all time. Her and I visited Guatemala in 2016 and toured the whole country via a rental car. A favorite stop was sleeping in the jungle near Tikal in hammocks with a 3AM hike to the top of Tikal to watch the sunrise. Her smile and excitement of the sunrise and jungle coming to life is a memory that I’ll never forget.
