Obituary of Gary Brian McDonald

Gary B. McDonald died unexpectedly at the Ghent Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on March 24, 2023 in Ghent, NY at the age of 68. Born in Hudson, NY to John G. and Ruth M. (White) McDonald, he was the husband, for 27 years, to the late Tara McDonald who passed away in 2011. He was a graduate of Maple Hill High School and earned a degree in Journalism at SUNY Morrisville. Before retiring, he worked for NYS Fleet Management in Albany. In 1984, he married his wife Tara (McCarthy) McDonald of Clifton Park in 1984. Over the next several years, the couple welcomed 3 sons, Brian G. of Jacksonville, Florida, Brendan A. of Saratoga, NY and Sean T. of Valatie, NY. Sean, along with Gary's sister, Alice Judson, was a devoted caregiver to his Father. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas K. McDonald of Greenport, NY; his grandson, Alexander and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a devoted Boston Red Sox Fan and enjoyed all baseball and football games. He was also an avid reader, especially history and enjoyed classic movies of the western and mystery genres. Funeral services will be 2PM, Friday, March 31 at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie with Rev. Dan Cohn officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie. Friends may call from 12-2 PM prior to the service. A reception will be at his sister, Alice Judson's home in Valatie following the service at the cemetery. All are invited to attend and celebrate Gary's life.
