I had the opportunity to speak to Dick in 2018 when he contacted me to discuss the Dorsey Family Tree that I created on Ancestry. He inspired my sister and brother in law, and myself, to visit Sugar Ridge PA in 2019. The place our 2nd Great Grandparents settled from Ireland. Disk knew his history and I am thankful for a brief exchange.

I always enjoyed speaking with Dick out in the the field and at post beagling teas. We shared a love for history and I enjoyed reading his History of Chatham Center. With his gentle and kind manner, Dick was someone I always sought out for conversation. His physical energy and intellectual engagement belied what I now realize were his advanced years. My memory book describes a kind, generous, true Christian as he enjoyed helping others in a shy, self-effacing way, His obituary describes his academic brilliance and his achievements in law and history. He did excellent research for his monthly articles about people and places described in impeccable language. He was a strong supporter of the Riders Mills Historical association of which he was a Past-President and Trustee. He was my close personal friend, and I learned much from him. I will miss him and his quiet chuckle and wisdom., Rest in peace dear friend. Harlan Root, M.D.
