Obituary of George A. Barilics

George A. Barilics, an extraordinary man to his family and community, peacefully passed away on October 6, 2021, at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, New York. By his side, holding his hands were his daughter, Brenda Amsden, and 'bonus' son, Rick Bertrand. He was 83. Born January 11, 1938, in Hudson, New York to Mary Skoda and George Barilics; George graduated from Ichabod Crane High School in 1957 where he was an avid sportsman: playing baseball, basketball, and soccer. He proudly served for the Armed Forces of the United States (RF Kluge 2D LT AGC), where he excelled as a heavy equipment engineer- from this experience, he successfully owned his own bulldozing business for many years. After George returned to the United States after serving overseas, he met and fell in love with his wife and life partner Rose Ann. They were soon married and he adopted her five children as his own. Everyone who knew George will remember him for his unique sense of humor, incredible work ethic, and his love of dancing and music. He volunteered his time as a summer youth soccer coach, as an EMT at Valatie Rescue Squad, and as a firefighter for the Niverville Fire Department for 60 years. George never stopped be active even in his later years. He continued to work for his landscape clients, loved to watch the Duke University Blue Devils and the New York Yankees, and regularly visited with the 4 o'clock crew at the Elks Club. He is predeceased by his one true love, Rose Ann Barilics. His memory will be forever cherished and kept alive by his family- his children: Joann Lindsey, late Stephen Barilics, Brenda Amsden (Tim), Rosalyn Caparaso, and Lorraine Hoagland (Kevin). His siblings: Mary Rieger, late Josephine Wood (late Jack), late Lillian Roginski (late Peter), Helen Crouse (late Don), Nick Barilics (Elena), and Ann Martino (Sal). His grandchildren: Sabryna Amsden Kurtz (Dan), Kathy Smith, Nathan Barilics (Michelle), Ryan Barilics (Rubi), JoAnna Crewell, George Fawthrop, and Devin Hoagland. His nieces and nephews: Melissa Morin (Robert), Michelle Martino, David Martino, PJ Roginski, Debbie Sweeney (Pat), Susie Valentini (Dal), Nicole Ewing (James), DeeAna Barilics, Jack Wood, and late James Wood. Not to mention his 11 great-grandchildren. All are invited to celebrate George's life in a memorial ceremony on Monday, October 18th, 11:00AM at St. John the Baptist Church, 1025 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, NY 12184. Immediately following the memorial, friends and family are invited to the Kinderhook Elks Lodge, 2750 NY-9H, Kinderhook, NY 12106, where the real celebration will take place. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY for their expert medical attention and for the tender care, they provided.
