Obituary of Laura Jean M. McKinley

Laura Jean (Laura) M. McKinley, 85, of Guilderland, NY, passed away on May 8, 2021 at Teresian House in Albany, NY following a brief illness. She is survived by three children John, Emmie (Daniel), and David (Susann) along with nine grandchildren, siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. Laura was born in Waleska, GA to the late Tom Smithwick and Frances Neff, on Jan 15, 1936 and worked for the State of NY for over 30 years, earning her BA in Psychology from the University of Albany in 1989. She retired from the state in 2005 finishing her career with the Department of Social Security/Disability where she enjoyed assisting taxpayers get the benefits that they were entitled to. Laura loved opera and classical music, attending several opera festivals in Europe where she meet her favorite performer, Siegfried Jerusalem. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 12 at the Raymond E Bond Funeral Home, Valatie. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 12 from 11:00-1:00pm prior to the service. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WMHT Public Broadcasting or to St Jude's Children's Hospital. .
