Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paul David Silver passed away peacefully at his home in Kinderhook on March 6, 2024 after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was 70 years old. Born in Brooklyn to Eugene and Ernestine Silver, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Paul was a graduate of Hudson High School, Columbia-Greene Community College, SUNY Albany, and Albany Law School. In his early work years, he was an integral part of the team at The Town Fair, a toy and baby furniture store in Hudson, NY, owned by his family. He began his legal career clerking for the Honorable Roger J. Miner, his mentor and friend. He continued his career at the Office of the NYS Attorney General, and ended his legal career as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of NY. During his early tenure there, he successfully prosecuted numerous significant narcotics and weapons cases. Paul was honored by the International Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association, cited for obtaining indictments and convictions against over 100 defendants charged with federal drug and drug related crimes, and for his vigorous efforts to cripple the drug trade in the Capital District. Paul later handled appeals for the government before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. He was a dedicated volunteer for the Hudson Fire Department's JW Hoysradt Hose and Chemical Company #8, Greenport Rescue Squad and Valatie Rescue Squad. He also spent many hours working with the dogs at the Columbia-Greene Humane Society. Paul is survived by his wife of 40 years, Maryann; his children, Joseph (Corinne) Silver and Lizzie (Austin) Silver; siblings, Judy McCall, Lynn Silver, Richard (Toni) Koweek, Jim (Annette) Koweek and Joan (Gary) Koweek; step-siblings, Leslie Block, Greg Ives and Cliff Ives; sister-in-law, Annemarie Boberg; grandson, Douglas Arthur Hughes; nieces, Mary (Vincent) Grasso, Jamie Klein, Kate McCall, Tara (Mike) Dugan, Stephanie (Matt) Koweek, Molly Koweek, Katie (Ben) Anderson and Sommer Koweek; nephews, Mike (Jennifer) McCall, David (Manoela) Koweek, Clay Koweek, Wesley Koweek, Gage Arcuri and numerous cherished cousins and friends. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Ernestine Silver, Arthur and Janice Koweek; stepmother, Rita Silver; and his best friends, Dog, Rocky and Trooper. Passionate animal protector, beloved counselor, mentor and friend to so many, Paul will be missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Paul's life will be held at a later date.
