John Andrew Dorsey, Sr., 84, of Stuyvesant N.Y. passed away on July 14, 2026, in Albany, N.Y.

Few people leave behind a legacy as rich in love and friendship as John. Deeply loved by family, friends, and all who knew him, he filled every room with kindness, laughter, and a genuine care for others that connected him with everyone he met. John was a strong and inspirational husband, dad, papa and friend to so many. His passing will be deeply felt, but the love he shared will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

John was born in Harlem, N.Y. on February 12, 1942. He earned a bachelor's degree from New England College and a master's degree in social work from Rutgers University. He worked for many years in the New York Office of Children and Family Services as a social worker. He also served for several years as the Town of Stuyvesant Judge, obtained the rank of Sergeant after more than twenty years of dedicated service in the Army and National Guard, and was a volunteer fire fighter with the Stuyvesant Falls Fire Company #2.

Growing up, John's life was significantly influenced by his talents in music, as a sprinter and cyclist. Later in life, he spent much of his time hunting, fishing and enjoying nature with his family and friends. Some of his happiest moments were spent fishing with his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories and passing on his love of the outdoors.

John was predeceased by his parents, Andrew Dorsey and Sybil Carter, his brother Leslie Dorsey, as well as his stepson Jonathan H. Bergeron. John is survived by his wife, Michele Dorsey, his son Hon. John A. Dorsey, Jr., his grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

Calling hours will be held at Raymond Bond Funeral Home in Valatie, N.Y. on Tuesday July 21, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with private services to follow.

In honoring John's spirit of giving back to the community, in lieu of flowers, his family kindly requests that donations be made to the Stuyvesant Falls Fire Company #2.
