Ed was an incredibly special person! The fact that he not only bounced back from a massive stroke at the age of 55 but continued to be an amazing human being made him a superhero in my book but what I loved most about him were his eyes. When you spoke with him you knew he was fully invested in what you were saying and that it was important to him as well. We had 4 kids involved with Crane Acting Troupe and last year he was still asking about each of them (and knew what degree/area they graduated in). His caring never ended. While it may be a bit darker here on earth it is certainly brighter in the heavens. His light is shining down...

Mr. Helfer had such an impact on the young adults of Ichabod Crane. He was there at every rehearsal and knew almost every kid’s name that was working on a show. He and Mrs. Helfer were like family and some of my most amazing memories include them. I send my love and prayers to all. He was a very special man that had an impact on many.

Edward had faith and a belief that much good was still to be done. I will miss his gentle ways and the Browne family sends our condolences and appreciation for all that the Helfer family has done for our family and the community.

I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you

I have many fond memories of Ed Helfer but the most striking was his dedication to not only the ICCS school community, but more importantly, to his wife and children. He spent countless numbers of hours working behind the scenes at ICHS musicals in support of his wife. It was beautiful to witness and it was a special joy to work on the early ICHS productions with Gail, Ed (and Eddie). My heartfelt condolences to the Helfer family.

Today I lost my father. The man who truly made me into a man. 17 years ago I instantly grew up when my father had a massive stroke. This event taught me how fragile life was and how brutal it could be.
I eventually moved back home to help take care of my dad and was blessed to spend the last 10 years by his side. I brought him to work with me everyday until about 3 years ago. He was a staple at Atlas and was a huge part of the Team.
Without my father, there would be no Atlas and I never would have been able to change so many peoples’ lives for the better. His legacy lives on everyday through me and every single person that walks through Atlas’ doors.
This year we have all lost so much. Due to covid we have not been able to see my father for the last 6 months. This sadly was his final 6 months and a time we were all robbed from spending time with him. I couldn’t even hug my mother when my father passed tonight. None of it seems real. It’s hard to see the meaning in all of this and to see any light in all of the darkness.
A big part of me just wants to curl up and die but I know that’s not what my father would want. If anything, above all he taught me how strong a human can be. He fought to stay alive for 17 long years. If he can do that, I can do anything. I will honor his life everyday by helping as many people as possible.
Thank you Dad for being my best friend. For teaching me the true value of life and for always being proud of me. No matter what hurdles life threw at you, you always stayed positive. I love you and miss you.
