William F. Fix Obituary
William F. Fix (Bill), born May 25, 1936, lifelong resident of North Chatham and Niverville NY, passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2026.
Bill is predeceased by his parents, Ethel and Anthony Fix, brother Robert Fix, and son Thomas Fix. Bill is survived by his wife of 70 years Phyllis (Turner) Fix, Susan (Jay) Kuhar of Dunnellon FL, Kathleen (Kai) Sabens of Newcomb, NY, Joyce Fix-Devenpeck (predeceased Stuart) of Malta NY. Grandchildren Dayna, Jake, Andrew, Virginia and Juliette along with three great grandchildren Robin, Vivian and Luke.
Bill retired from Sterling Winthrop Pharmaceuticals as an Industrial HVAC Mechanic and then pursued another path in the food industry working "just for fun" at the Marriott and the Adirondack Hotel in Long Lake.
He had 90 years of adventures. If he was not on one, he was planning one, and was always prepared with his go-bag, knife, flashlight, and compass at the ready. Traveling in all directions; Alaska to Florida and Ireland to California. His fondest memories were made in the Adirondacks, where he and his wife eventually purchased a cabin on a lake in Newcomb.
Bill had a passion for boats and tried them all. His first was a tug boat while in the US Coast Guard. He joined the Coast Guard after graduating from Martin Van Buren High School in Kinderhook, NY. The boats of Bill continued. Family vacations always started with a well thought plan, three canoes rigged in tripod formation on the roof of the station wagon, and four kids rolling around in the back. Two weeks every summer were spent paddling a new river or lake and camping on the shore. Bill's passion for local waterways was complimented with his license as a NYSDEC Hunting/Fishing Guide and certification as a US Power Squadron Pilot.
During his working years, he lived with his family on a small farm in North Chatham. This consisted mainly of sheep (who seemed to escape every spring) along with a large garden. During his later years he lived in the Florida sunshine during the winter.
He proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter with both the Niverville and North Chatham Fire Departments.
Cemetery services will be held 9:00am on Friday June 26th at Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. Calling hours will be held afterward on Friday June 26th from 4pm to 6pm at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home in Valatie NY.
The Fix family requests in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Healthcare Consortium of Columbia County in Hudson NY. The consortium transported Bill twice a week to dialysis which the family is forever grateful for.
