John J. Nagle Jr. Obituary
John James Nagle Jr., 87, of Valatie and Clifton Park, New York, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday May 28 2026.
Born August 11, 1938, in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, John was the son of Hilda Stopper and John Nagle. He grew up in Colonie and attended Roessleville Middle School, where he fondly remembered setting pins at Sunset Recreation and working as a paperboy, caddy, and altar boy. He graduated from Vincentian Institute in 1956 as a member of the Red Jackets, earned a B.A. from Union College in 1960, and completed an M.S. in Industrial Administration in 1967.
John served as a lieutenant at SAC Headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska. After his military service, he joined the Norton Company in 1964 and, over 25 years, advanced from production control through several management roles to become controller. He later worked at Flomatic Corporation in Glens Falls as materials manager. In retirement, John spent ten years at COARC as a direct support professional, assisting people with intellectual and developmental differences.
John was an avid gardener who especially enjoyed annuals, perennials, and flowering shrubs. He also devoted decades to youth sports, coaching his sons' baseball teams and his daughters' softball teams; one of his proudest seasons was his daughter's Miss Shen 12U New York State Championship. John served as president of both Colonie Little League and the Miss Shen Softball League and was instrumental in making the Clifton Commons softball complex a reality. He also loved fishing and bird hunting, earning the North American Grand Slam of Grouse. He cherished days spent in Nebraska cornfields hunting with his sons and cheering for Big Red football. John and his wife, Jackie shared a beautiful love story written in the places they explored together. From the historic streets of Europe to the breathtaking vistas of America's national parks, every mile they traveled was filled with laughter and cherished memories of the beautiful life they built together.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Jacqueline Nagle; his sisters, Annette Couture and Phyllis Huber; his six children, Michael Nagle, Dan Nagle, Dave Nagle, Steve Nagle, Michele Kelley, and Mary Lavender; his stepchildren, Jacqueline Goewey, Tracey Long and Steve Goewey; and 24 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Barbara (Phillips) Nagle, his wife and the mother of his children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Rt.9, Valatie on Tuesday at 12:15 PM. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. Visitation will take place at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Valatie on Monday from 5-7 PM. Memorial donations may be made to COARC www.coarc.org.
