Anthony Joseph McCauley Obituary

Anthony Joseph McCauley, lovingly known as Tony, passed away suddenly on May 16, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories filled with family, friendship, humor, and a passion for sports. Born in Clydebank, Scotland, to John and Elizabeth McCauley, Tony immigrated to Brooklyn, New York with his family at the age of two. He spent the early part of his life in Brooklyn before later moving to upstate New York to be closer to friends and family.

Tony graduated from Lincoln High School in Brooklyn and immediately began his career with American Express, where he dedicated many years of hard work and commitment. After leaving American Express, Tony followed in his father's footsteps and learned the trade of slate roofing, becoming a proud member of Local Union #25. He later finished his career with Smith Roofing, where he worked alongside his nephews, something that brought him great pride and joy.

A devoted sports fan throughout his life, Tony passionately supported the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. Some of his fondest memories were made during his younger years playing sports alongside his brother John and their close friends throughout the neighborhoods of Brooklyn.

Tony shared many loving years with his partner, Laurie, whose companionship brought him great happiness. He also shared a special bond with his beloved cat, Putty, who brought him constant comfort and joy.

Tony was predeceased by his sisters, Bernadette Campion and Anne Smith. He is survived by his brother, John McCauley, as well as a large extended family who will remember him for his humor, loyalty, love of sports, and his fondness for Devil Dogs.

Tony's memory will live on in the stories shared by those who knew and loved him, and in the warmth, laughter, and spirit he brought to every interaction throughout his life.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM, Friday at St. John the Baptist Church in Valatie, NY. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Stuyvesant Falls, NY. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie, NY.
