Elizabeth Ann Demers, 73 of Valatie, New York, passed away on January 1st, 2026 with herfamily by her side at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, New York.
Beth was born in Hudson, New York to Walter David Demers and Carrie Mae (Mazal) Demerson February 27th, 1952. She went to Ichabod Crane Central High School and graduated in June1970. She went on to graduate from Mildred Elley as an Executive Legal Secretary in January 1972 in Albany, New York. She worked at Niagara Mohawk for 35 years, during which time she wore many different hats. Beth’s job roles at Niagara Mohawk/National Grid included working as an Employee Relations Clerk, Operations Clerk, and an Electric Planner. After retiring from NiMo in 2007 Beth worked for the Ichabod Crane Central School District for 10 years. She worked in the Main offices of the Primary School and High School as a typist clerk. She was an avid quilter and was a long time member of multiple quilting groups, including Sew n Sews, LOL, East Side Quilters, and her quilting Guild. She received multiple awards for the quilts she made and entered in the Columbia County Fair. She enjoyed baking, knitting, reading, and completing Sudoku and crossword puzzles. One of her passions was helping others and giving back to not only people in need, but animals too. Many of the quilts, wall hangings, table runners, scarves, and hats she and her quilting groups made were donated or used to help raise money for local organizations helping those in need. She was a member of the Columbia-Green Humane Society/SPCA and donated regularly to various charities including, but not limited to, the Special Olympics, the American Heart Association, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and the Wounded Warrior Project. Beth loved dogs and poured her heart into taking care of many beloved pets throughout her life.
In addition to her community contributions, Beth was a loving and devoted mother to her two children, a caring sister, aunt and cousin, a friendly neighbor, and a true friend. She is survived by her daughter, Christine James of Ossining, NY , her son, Stephen James of Nassau, NY , and her younger brothers Paul Demers and his wife Charlotte of Camden, SC, and Randy Demers and his wife Sophie of Valatie, NY . She is also survived by a host of family, friends, and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her parents Walter Demers in 1997 and Carrie Mae Demers in 2005. Calling hours will be held at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie, NY on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026 from 10am to 12pm. Funeral services will immediately follow with Pastor Daniel Cohn. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Valatie, NY.
