Stuart Lawrence Kinne Obituary

Stuart Lawrence (Stu Pete) Kinne died on October 14, 2025, at the age of 90.

Stuart was born in Granville NY on July 9. 1935, to G Lawrence Kinne and Maude Beebe Kinne. He grew up on the family farm in West Rupert VT and spent his childhood tending to farm animals, tromping through Vermont woods, fishing, hunting, sugaring, and growing. His early years were spent in the one room schoolhouse in West Rupert. His mischievous nature created challenges for his teachers. In 1953 he graduated from high school at Washington Academy in Salem, NY where he met his future wife, Beverly Hyatt.

After high school he went on to serve in the armed forces and was stationed in Germany. Learning about new places and cultures was thrilling to him. He took advantage of his leave time to explore Germany Ireland and Great Britain.

The year of his return to the United States was full. He transitioned from logging work in the Vermont mountains to romance and marriage with Beverly Kinne and furthering his education at Bryant College in Providence RI on the GI bill. The young couple's first child Calla was born during the college years.

Following his graduation in 1960 with a BS from Bryant college he took a job with International Harvester Co. and moved his young family back to the family farm in West Rupert where their second child Julie was born. By 1963 the family had moved to Livingston NY. Stu opened his own International Harvester Co. dealership Columbia Tractor, Inc. with his partner James Hamilton and they grew it into a successful business originally located in Kinderhook and later Claverack, NY.

While in business he loved supporting young people interested in agriculture. It thrilled him to see the children flocking to his equipment display at the local county fair or to be the highest bidder on the local 4-H kid's prize-winning hog at that same fair.

In 2018 Stuart and his daughter Julie, who was by then, his business partner, sold the business to Salem farm supply, Stuart retired in 2020 after nearly 60 years of business and service.

Stu's hobbies and interests included logging, sugaring, farming, farm equipment ,skiing, tractor pulling, driving, poetry, visiting his favorite watering holes, Rotary Club, rifles, hunting especially woodchuck hunting ,girl dadding, making friends wherever he went, trespassing, flirting, map reading , dirt roads, and visiting every farm equipment dealership along the way .

Stuart is survived by his wife Beverly Hyatt Kinne of Claverack New York, his daughters Calla Kinne (Daniel Coutin) of Niskayuna, NY and Julie Kinne (Dawn Hunt) of Claverack New York. He is survived by his siblings Sylvia Ashton and Randle Kinne (Ruth Kinne), his grandsons Jacob Green (Taylor Anderson) and Benjamin Green, along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents G Lawrence Kinne and Maude Beebe Bibens
