Obituary of Christa Emmy Slater

Christa Emmy (nee Babirad) Slater, born on September 4, 1952 in Bochum Germany, peacefully passed away on May 14 at Albany Medical Center. She joins the three other important women in her life, Hildegard Babirad, her mother, Jill Slater, her mother-in-law, and Beata Alsdorf, her cousin. She is survived by her husband, James Slater, her daughters, Rebekah Stephenson and her son, Slater of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Deborah Diamante, her husband, Peter, and her children, Gabriel and Abigail of Prescott, Connecticut.
Also surviving her are her brothers Stefan (Waltraud) of Munchholzhausen, Germany and their family; Peter (Tyrecy) of Houston, Texas and their children; Jurgen (Gail) of Valatie, New York and their family; Stefan (Amy) of Finlayson, Minnesota and their family; and Robert (Susan) of Rheinbeck, New York and their family; also by a sister Rosemarie (James t.) and their daughter. The in-law side of the family includes her father-in-law, James Slater of Fort Myers, Florida; her sister-in-law, Nancy (Bill) Apple of North Fort Myers, Florida and their family; and Thomas (Sherry) Slater of North Fort Myers, Florida and their family.
Christa retire from teaching after many years in the Elementary level of the Ichabod Crane School District in Valatie, New York. She was a member of Good Samaritan Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, Nevada, and a former member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Valatie, New York.
After retirement, she and her husband resided in Las Vegas, Nevada for seven months and at Fox Hill Campground in Spencertown, New York for five months of the year. She enjoyed reading, biking and playing Mahjongg. She enjoyed travel and seeing the beauty of God's creation.
Arrangements are with Bond Funeral Home in Valatie, New York. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, June 14 at 11am at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Valatie. Internment of ashes will follow in the Memorial Garden. A reception will then be held in the Fellowship Hall. A memorial service will be held at Good Samaritan Lutheran Church in Las Vegas in the Fall.
