Please share a memory of Anita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Anita C. (Sweet) Hinkel, 97, on Monday, February 3, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born in Troy, NY on July 19, 1927, she was the daughter of Sarah Loomis and William Sweet. She married the love of her life, Floyd Hinkel on April 21, 1945. They resided in Stuyvesant where they raised their five children. Anita is survived by her daughters, Jeanne (Wayne), Diana (Billy), Susan (Jim), and Debbie (Scott). She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd, her son Ronald, her grandsons, Jason and Christian, her brothers William and Melvin, and her sister Virginia. Along with her five children, she had 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, her forever daughter-in-law Judy, and her special sons-in-law, Wayne and Billy, and many nieces and nephews. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family. Cooking, baking, and making candy with her grandchildren was one of her favorite things to do, as was shopping with her daughters, as well as playing Monday night card games with her daughters and extended daughter, Fay. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida for many years. She worked as an aid at Barnwell Nursing Home, moving on to the activity department, where she created Mama's Kitchen. It was here that she would bake with the patients and enjoy their baked goods during coffee hour. She was the last charter member of the Stuyvesant Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Stuyvesant Falls VFW Auxiliary, the Stuyvesant Garden Club, and a communicant of St. John's Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant. Calling hours will be Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 1:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm, at the St. John's Lutheran Church, 159 Route 26A, Stuyvesant, NY 12173. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Please consider making a donation to the Valatie Rescue Squad in lieu of flowers.
