Please share a memory of Wayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wayne Edward Sansbury 88 of Stuyvesant, NY passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025 at the Pine Haven Nursing Home in Philmont, NY. Wayne was born in Ardmore, OK to Wayne Sr. and Gladys Sansbury on April 30, 1936. Wayne attended high school in Norman, OK and graduated in 1954. Wayne then went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Journalism from Oklahoma University. After college, Wayne served in the US Air Force in Germany for three years. He entered as a second Lieutenant and was discharged with the rank of Captain. Wayne worked in the financial industry as an institutional salesman in New York, NY as well as Los Angeles, CA. After a few years in California, Wayne and his wife Lois built two successful ice cream stores within the Swensen's franchise in Santa Monica, CA, with the flagship store residing on Wilshire Boulevard. After selling those businesses in the late 1970's, they decided to relocate back to the East Coast and landed in Stuyvesant, NY next to their beloved Hudson River where they spent the last 45 years ~ truly a wonderful place to be and make memories. Wayne and Lois were happiest on the river where they spent many a sunset on their Boston Whaler. Wayne was a Commodore of the Hook Boat Club, a member and former president of the 50's Club and a member of the Old Chatham Hunt Club. Wayne also did extensive volunteer work with the Red Cross, Salvation Army and the Columbia County Office of the Aging. Wayne leaves behind Lois A. Sansbury, his beloved wife of 59 1/2 years, of Stuyvesant, NY, their two sons Christopher Sansbury (Hallie Ziesmer) and Craig Sansbury (Melissa Wettengal Sansbury), and their three grandsons Wylie, Noah and Quinn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kinderhook Memorial Library. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Kinderhook Memorial Liberty for always being there and to the staff at Pine Haven Nursing Home for the kindness and loving care provided to Wayne. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the Spring.
